With an established large SharePoint 2010 farm, the University of Brighton was experiencing specific issues, so JFDI’s SharePoint Doctors service was called in.
SharePoint Health Check
The University had a successful SharePoint 2010 farm with excellent content engineered by their in-house SharePoint team. Over the years, an increase in their performance requirements began to put a strain on their SharePoint environment.
At the start of our engagement we conducted a thorough health check of each of the servers in the University’s SharePoint farm. We were able to flag up configuration and environmental problems before they became an issue. We worked with their IT team to put together a plan of action to resolve the problems.
We produced a detailed document showing the exact structure and configuration of their SharePoint environment. We compiled a list of best practice changes that needed to be made to ensure the farm keeps running smoothly.
SharePoint Doctors – Emergency Troubleshooting
Their in-house team ensured they had backups of all databases, and that the virtual infrastructure was resilient enough to deliver continuity of service.
However, all of a sudden, something strange was happening to their content databases. They noticed that during scheduled maintenance windows, when moving databases between disks to optimise space usage, they started going missing. They got in touch with JFDI’s team of SharePoint Doctors to see if we could restore balance to the farm.
Firstly, we helped them recover the missing databases without having to go back to an older backup.
Secondly, we were able to identify what it was in their maintenance procedures that was causing the instability. We gave them a new set of procedures to follow, and the behaviour has not been seen since.
JFDI continues to work with the University of Brighton to maintain and develop its SharePoint platform.
