“For our investment professionals, it’s vital to seek and find relevant market intelligence fast. The IRP turns our amassed past deal documents into the lifeblood of investment planning and accurate decision making.”Matthew Green, Head of Information Technology, CVC Capital Partners

A SharePoint Portal for Investment Research and Knowledge Management for a leading Global Private Equity Firm

CVC wanted to realise the value of knowledge in more than 30 years’ worth of documents from past investments and deals. These documents were hard for users to find and stored in file shares on legacy, homegrown applications.

Investment Research Portal

The Investment Research Portal (IRP), built on Microsoft SharePoint Online and Microsoft SharePoint Server, solves many hard problems for CVC. Documents saved by their busy deal teams are now correctly and automatically categorised in several ways, including industry sector, business type, investment date, etc. This is achieved with minimal human intervention using JFDI’s AutoTag add-in for SharePoint and SharePoint Online, which uses overridable rules to apply sensible first-guess metadata and keywords to incoming or existing documents.

Custom Search Refinement

The vast corpus of documents is fully searchable and refinable in an engaging way, with newly developed animated SharePoint web parts, allowing even novice users to find exactly what they are looking for. The portal also brings together knowledge streams from various external and internal providers. The investment teams are provided with a live feed of stock information and industry sector news relevant to companies in their portfolio. With a single click, they are presented with a categorised, highly visual view of all the documents and information CVC has on each company.

User Introduction Video

JFDI also directed and produced a broadcast-quality introduction video for CVC that is shown to portal users on their first visit. The GuideDots user-preference feature ensures we only autoplay the video once. Throughout IRP, CVC branding and design values are maintained, ensuring that users feel at home, immersed in this new, immediately helpful information resource.
